ART ADRIFT -a community arts project collaboratively run by Emma Washer, Cara Ratajczak and Sandy McKendrick on the Cocos Keeling Islands, Christmas Island and Fremantle. Sixty floating artworks were exhibited as the opening event the 2013 Fremantle Festival. Artworks were created from re-cycled flotsam and jetsam. Only materials washed up on atolls shores and WA coast were utillised in their creation. Days were spent walking and canoeing to remote islands fossicking along the coasts for drifting debri, followed by weeks of cleaning and sorting the abundance of plastics, rubber, wood, rope and nets. Meditating daily on the endless unravelling of ropes and looking for those "perfect pieces" that would complete the form of the artworks.
